How does time work?

Time can be defined as the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole. Therefore, the concept of time is hard to grasp even though we experience it everyday. I have experienced how time can sometimes seem so quick, but sometimes take so long. I remember when I had to hand in a project, but I had procrastinated till the night before. I tried to concentrate; however, I went down the rabbit hole of watching conspiracy youtube videos. I remember starting to work at 9:30 and in a blink of an eye, it’s 12:00 and I’ve just written the introduction to my project. I didn’t want to pull an all nighter, so I pulled myself together and took a deep breath and started working on the body paragraph of the project. The few minutes on which I worked on the body paragraph seemed like eternity and I felt like I deserved a well deserved break. In no time, it was 3:00 in the morning and I had only gotten a quarter done. Knowing that I can’t just keep stalling, I started to work on the second body paragraph. Somehow, I was able to finish it in no time, proving that if I concentrated, it was possible to get things done quickly. This experience has shown me that time can pass according to how concentrated you are.

Reflection: This piece was written according to the prompt “explain how time works”. I wrote an experience where time passed slowly when I was not concentrated, and where time passed quickly when I concentrated and got my act together.

  1. I enjoy how you use practical examples of how time works, it allowed you to explain these concepts. I feel like your idea is great however I feel like it could use organization and better descriptors. For example, you talk a lot about anecdotal examples, however if it used more details it would be even better. I enjoy how you started with a definition, told a story, and then brought it all back to your initial definition. I feel like that was quite effective what you did. Overall an interesting read and I enjoyed hearing your opinion on time.

  2. I guess that’s why every time I see you, you look like your half asleep! Haha. Your paper consists of very relatable thoughts, especially with the whole procrastination process. I found myself constantly nodding to the story you shared in agreement because I personally procrastinate as well, but just not as extreme. I only wished you had written more because you have very good ideas. It would be nice if you expanded more on the first few sentences and made it a paragraph and put more description when you realized it was already 12 am.

  3. Haha! This was a really relatable story! Thanks for sharing about your experience with how time works and a self example. I found it quite intriguing that you chose to use such an example, but as I think about it, I’m sure everyone has had this happen to them before. As I read your story I kept thinking, wow, that sounds like me, great job, and good job with your writing!
