What makes you come alive is an essay about my passions and what I believe is important in life.
All my life, I have been surrounded by music. Ever since I was a child, I enjoyed playing the piano and the cello. As I got older, I began listening to different genres of music and soon music became a part of my daily life. Listening and playing music has really made me come alive throughout all my years in life.
My passion for music began when I was 9, I began learning the cello and throughout these years, I have never quit and my love for the instrument only got stronger. Every time I practice, I attempt new songs, which I do my best to perfect. As I continue to improve, the songs that I perfect sound better and that really is a motivating factor for playing the instrument. Every milestone that I reach just reassures me that I’m getting better, and every time I take an exam I work extra hard to do my best and show myself what I am truly capable of. What I accomplish is only a factor that continues to add to my love of music. When I was younger, I also learned how to play the piano, while I enjoyed playing the cello, I did not share the same love for the piano. It really was a shame as the 2 instruments are very commonly played together as a duet. Nonetheless, I still enjoy listening to piano music as it is calm and relaxing to listen to.
Instruments are not the only way I have been surrounded by music. Ever since I have gotten my first phone, I have listened to music on the bus, on the train and whenever I’m alone. Music has been my companion many times in life. Music really makes me come alive as I’m listening to different genres of music. Sometimes when I’m feeling sad, I listen to some dance or jazz which could easily cheer me up. When I’m doing sports, I like listening to beat-heavy music where I would work according to the pace of the music. In my free time, I will always be listening to music while I’m doing something else.
Music has played a huge part in my life and really defines me as a person. Hence, I believe that music really makes me come alive.

I didn’t know that you had a passion for music. Although I cannot say the same, I hope you pursue that passion and use it to your advantage. To be passionate about something is, in my opinion, a gift. Many people feel lost or do not have something that makes them feel what you feel about music, which results in a lot of people feeling empty.

I really like your essay and your love for music. I liked how music has affected your life a lot and even though you didn’t really like playing the piano, you never stopped loving music. My favorite part of your essay is that you said you still listen to music as it calms and relaxes you. I liked it because I can relate to you as I also feel calmer while I listen to music. Overall, I really enjoyed reading your essay as it gave me an insight into what makes you come alive.
